MEETING OF DECEMBER 17, 2007

PRESIDENT Joseph M. Behson presiding

GREETINGS & INVOCATION by Deacon Bob Pasquarelli

GUESTS:  Many members brought guests to our Holiday Party, and they were introduced table by table, after we had enjoyed the social hour, followed by a family style turkey dinner.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ø       Jerry Tysiak announced that both our big December projects were concluded successfully.  There are about 20 cartons of citrus fruit still available for purchase.  The Christmas trees are gone, and we made about $2000!  To thank Jerry for all his hard work organizing both of these important fund raisers, and to give him a suggestion for making the job of selling trees easier, Peg Weiss presented Jerry with a cartoon from the TU, Closer To Home, which depicted a Christmas tree vending machine requiring no human salespeople!

Ø       Mikki McSherry circulated signup sheets for volunteers for the food and toy project, where-by we try to help the less fortunate families in our area, some of whom have elected to pick up their own gifts at Chet Melius’ house.  Help is needed to transport from 24 Shumann Rd to 4 Sunset Road on Wed about 2:30 PM.  Other help is needed as follows:

Tues Dec 18:  Toy pick up from Troy – Bob Reiter, Bob Pasquarelli

Sort, wrap toys 1-3 – Barb Fioravanti, Joe Behson

Wed Dec 19:  Sort, wrap toys – Mikki McSherry, --------------------

                    Deliver food/toys – Bob Loveridge 6:30, ---------------

Thurs Dec 20:  Sort/wrap toys – Woodie & Marian Hacker 10-12

                      Deliver toys -- -------------------------------------------

Fri Dec 21:  Sort/wrap toys – Joe Behson 9-12, ----------------------

                    Deliver food/toys -- ----------------------------------------

Sat Dec 22:  Finalize food/toy boxes -- ---------------------------------

Deliver food/toys 9 AM – Kelly Stone, Chris Blais, Barb Fioravanti, Jerry Tysiak, Bob Pasquarelli, John Brownrigg, Jim & Terry Parslow, Skip Patton

This has been a major project for many years, and is one where Sand Lake Kiwanis is very visible to the community.  Its success requires the help and cooperation of EVERY MEMBER of the Club!

PLEASE give some of your time.  You will be emotionally well rewarded, we guarantee!

PARTNERS IN SERVICE

Bob Loveridge presented the special shirt to Tina Rosenberger, nominated for this award by her husband Botsy, in recognition for all the hard work she has done, especially working with the food trailer.  Tina put in more hours than many of our members!  Congratulations, and thank you!

Holiday gifts were also presented to our two waitresses, Shannon and Wendy.

The beautifully wrapped gifts under the tree were prominent in the grab bag switch game, and those who participated were rewarded by champagne, candles, holiday décor, candy, wine, --  especially Bob Loveridge’s—his grapes lit up!

Led by Bob Loveridge and Peg Weiss, with tone guidance from Dick Johnsen, the traditional sing along featuring carols and holiday songs, especially Silver Bells, the favorite of our song leader for years, Phil Pierce, ended the party.  The lucky people who found a penny under their chair took home the lovely poinsettia table decoration.

There will be no meetings for the next two weeks because our Mondays are Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.  Rest up well, and enjoy the holidays.  Ring in the New Year, and return to Kiwanis in 2008 with a renewed spirit of dedication to serving our community!

THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE ON JANUARY 7th  WITH Senior Services Chair JOE TRUPIA PRESENTING THE PROGRAM, AND CLAYTON BESCH SERVING AS GREETOR AND INVOCATOR.

A BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING WILL FOLLOW THE REGULAR MEETING.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

MAY THE PEACE AND JOY OF THIS GLORIOUS HOLIDAY SEASON BE WITH EACH OF YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES!
