PROGRAM

          Bryce Cutler introduced his two co-workers, Larry Dillon and speaker Susan MacMillan,

of Key Investments.  Susan is an RN who formerly worked in pediatric intensive care before going into the health insurance field.  She has been a Long Term Care Insurance broker for the last seven years.  The US population is aging rapidly; soon those over 65 will be the largest demographic.  We as adults need to plan for their own care needs before the need arrives.  Long-term care is considered to be care needed over 90 days’ duration.  90% of this is custodial rather than professional care, and is thus not covered by Medicare.  Families cannot be counted on to provide this type of care now as in the past.  Family members are geographically scattered, have full time employment commitments, have their own children to care for, and may also themselves physically unable to do it.  Medicaid pays only after one’s assets are gone—paid down, home sold, etc.—and then only is limited to $8000 to $11,000, which will not provide the level of care one would want.  The New York Partnership provides extended benefits, and protection from spend-down of assets, but only in this state.  So far there is no reciprocity with other states.  The amount of premium for long-term care insurance is dependent upon variable factors:  age, state of health, and amount of assets you are trying to protect.  Susan distributed an evaluation form seeking suggestions for improvement of the presentation, and request for more information.  Joe Distell thanked her for her informative talk, and presented her with our Certificate of Appreciation.

HAPPY DOLLARS

$       Deacon (or is it Beacon?) Bob:  Joan is recovering from painful carpal tunnel surgery on one hand before undergoing the second one in six weeks.

$       Clayton:  Son Col Tom Besch is now in charge of $9 billion worth of US missiles, and was the subject of an article with picture in the New York Times.

$       Distell:  Wonderful dinner tonight (roast beef)—good to be back!  In the interim, my daughter got married, my son got married, my daughter got her PhD, and I got a haircut from Botsy!  I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

$       Jim Rogers:  The River Rats are finally doing well.  They scored 5 goals in one game, so we got free sandwiches!  {Just how does that work, Jim?  ED}

$       Bryce:  For weeks you’ve been expecting my speaker to be a Mario, but Mario just became a father, and couldn’t make it.  Thanks to Susan for pinch-hitting on short notice!

$       Gary:  I too got a great haircut, but I won’t tell where {on your head?}  I only tell when it’s a bad one!

DOOR PRIZE, provided by Bryce, was won by Fred Wurtemberger

50/50 for $27 was won by Joe Distell, who gave it back to the Admin Fund!  Thanks, Joe!

MEGA 50/50 wins again!  Dudley tried to pick the King of Clubs from the 38 remaining cards to win the accumulated $235.50, but the best he could do was the 7 of Spades!
