Ø       CHRISTMAS TREES came Sat, and we have taken in $855 so far, thanks to those who came on short notice to sell, and those who set up the operation in the new location near the WSL firehouse.  Trees are not tagged; most all are $30, except the very tall which are $35, and the very small which are $25.  “Pay no attention to the painted butts!”  Signup sheet passed.  You can also sign up on the new club software; see the club’s web page for directions.  This week and the weekend are critical.  Need 3 to a shift.  Surprise reward to the team that sells the last tree!  This from Citrus Joe, now known as Christmas Joe!

Ø       BELLS OF LIFE:  Jerry Tysiak reported a most successful Saturday at Crossgates selling Bells of Life--$1200 worth!  Thanks to Chris Blais who stayed ALL DAY, the Key Clubs of both Averill Park and Columbia HS, SLKs who worked their shifts, especially Botsy, who always came back to the cash box with a fist full of dollars!

Ø       COMMUNITY SERVICE signup sheets were passed for help sorting food & toys Sun Dec 18 at 1 PM; wrapping gifts with the Sand Lake Seniors on Mon Dec 19 from 9 AM on; and making deliveries on Sat Dec 23 from 9 AM, all from the Church of the Covenant.  We acknowledge that this is a very busy time for everyone, but this is a major project, and we need ALL of you!  This is what our club is all about, folks—helping others.  Bring gifts for teens by the Dec 11 meeting.

DECEMBER ANNIVERSARIES:  Jim & Joanne Rogers’ 45th!  We made a feeble attempt at singing to Kelly and Jim, quite off key, but it was the thought that counted!  However we certainly enjoyed Eve’s delectable double chocolate cake, with lots of roses on it!

PROGRAM

Community Service Co-chair John Brownrigg distributed a list of our past and present projects for all members to evaluate:  How good are they?  Shall we continue them?  New ones?

John and Kathy will review them and set up the schedule for next year based on your answers.

HAPPY DOLLARS

$       Botsy:  For all Kathy’s work with the food deliveries at Doors of Hope, and for the stranger who asked about Kiwanis work after the Bells of Life, and gave us a check for $100!

$       Jerry:  Great work selling all those Bells, especially for Botsy’s new technique—it works!

$       Barb:  For Joe Melius and his friend who brought me coffee while I was freezing my butt selling trees!

$       Chris:  For the great feeling watching the Key Club kids work with Kiwanians!

$       Kelly:  For Botsy, because he’s a really nice guy, but he tries to hide it!

$       Citrus Joe:  For exceeding our citrus sales goal!

$       Jim R:  For Joanne’s putting up with me for 45 years!

$       Armand:  My wife had her hair cut by Botsy, and said it was the best one she’d ever had!

$       Chris:  For the nice lunch at Hooter’s!

$       Kathy:  Took Derrick to the airport; he’s flying to the Gold Coast of Australia!

DOOR PRIZE, provided by John, and described by him as a “western safety program”, was won by Joe Grillo!  It was a coffee mug showing a man and his dog on a horse.  The man was slumped over, and the dog was driving with the reins in his mouth—The Alternative Designated Driver!  Maybe Suzanne was thinking of getting a dog!  And a horse?

50/50 for $26 was won by Jim Colabelli!

MEGA 50/50 continues, despite Gary’s best efforts.  It will grow from $199, because Gary picked the 4 of Spades from the 39 cards.  He swore the King of Clubs wasn’t even in the deck, and it took Pres Bob several tries to find it!

HIGHLIGHTS OF COMMITTEE REPORTS

Community Services (Brownrigg/Evensen):  Have helped unload about 3 tons of food for Doors of Hope, and provided seminars for senior citizens to learn about Medicare prescription insurance.

Publicity (Cybulski):  Articles about Citrus Sales, Christmas Tree Sales, and a picture of those present at our recent Clergy Recognition Night.

Spiritual Aims (Pasquarelli):  Clergy Recognition Night; signs used twice; SLKs ushered at the Community Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service.

Sponsored Youth (Barb/Chris):  Blais & Stone attended 3 Key Club meetings at APHS, and Fioravanti went to 3 at Columbia HS.  Both groups worked on Bells of Life campaign; AP held a blood drive.

Young Child Priority #1 (Tysiak):  On Nov 8th 20 Key Clubbers and advisors from both schools visited and toured the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Unit, and were quite impressed to see how the money they collect is used to benefit ill and injured children.

Youth Services (Greene/Stone):  Gave $500 to Vanderheyden for holidays.  Computers for Youth project still continuing.

OLD BUSINESS

  1. Audit Committee still has no report.
  2. Sign Committee still working.  Ken Noland will refurbish the old ones.
  3. We are indebted to the WSL Fire Company for their hospitality allowing us to use their facility.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Social Chair Eve requested up to $50 to put on a holiday party for the seniors at Brookside during the week between Christmas and New Year’s.  She is planning on homemade cookies and punch.  Expenditure approved from Senior Services Committee.
  2. Leave of absence was approved for Ken James from Nov 20, 2006 to Feb 28, 2007.
  3. Lt Gov Kileen Davies is requesting monetary donations from each club to “Adopt a Needy Family” under Unity House program.  They will choose the family, and Kileen will shop.  $100 was approved from Youth Services.
  4. Eve requested approval for a Kiwanis 92nd Birthday Party on Jan 22nd – granted.
  5. $100 gift and card approved for our waitress, Sarah.
  6. A full-page ad in the APHS Yearbook was approved, to come equally from Sponsored Youth, Youth Services, and Community Services Committees, and will contain the names of the graduating seniors who are members of our sponsored Key Club.
  7. Pablo Martinez is planning another Texas Hold Em for Jan 20th with proceeds to purchase electronic equipment to be used jointly by bands in the JavaNet Beanery and Battle of the Bands.  His use of our signs for the two weeks prior to the event was approved.
  8. John Brownrigg requested $200 to feed the Marines who provide our toys—approved.
  9. Donations of food are much less than previously given.  Decision was made to concentrate on our original project, giving to needy families with children, and discontinue individual baskets to senior citizens, but to provide one basket (if food is available) for all the seniors at Brookside, in their Community Hall.
  10. $300 was approved for materials for the GOOFS of COC to make vests with the Kiwanis logo for donated stuffed animals.  They will be given to SL Ambulance staff to comfort ill or injured children being transported.
