PROGRAM
Deacon Bob Pasquarelli, a “beacon in our community”, introduced Rev Robert Loesch, newly appointed pastor of Zion United Church of Christ in Taborton, as tonight’s speaker. Rev Loesch was born in Florida, grew up in Boston, educated in Connecticut, and was ordained in 1966. He has served churches in MA and CT, and has a twin brother in prison ministry in Boston. He complimented Kiwanis for its work in the community, and is enjoying living “on the mountain” with its view of the lakes. Zion Church began in 1852 originally with German immigrants, but is now quite diverse, and has many generations of the same families. People of God take care of each other, and welcome all faiths, as does Kiwanis. Prayer is an essential gift and a blessing. We need to overcome our differences, share activities and worship, continue to grow and become educated. Almost everyone has some type of disability, and it may not be visible. Be aware, be accepting, and work for accessibility. Community outreach can’t solve all problems, but can help and show caring. We are stewards of God’s environment, and we should seek peace and justice in the world.
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Jerry Tysiak: Hit a deer on our way to Florida, but still had a good trip. Car badly damaged, but no one (except the deer!) was hurt. Visited son in W VA on the way home.
$ IPP Alison: My Girl Scout Troop is selling cookies, and I expect lots of orders!
$ Chris: Our new member Armand is to be commended—look at his beautiful Red Sox shirt! Got a hair cut (only one?) from Botsy, learned all about SLK—so many members—won’t have to meet in the bathroom any more! {That’s just the way he said it—The ED doesn’t get it either—must be an inside joke}!
$ Woodie: Salem United is selling pecans for $7.50/lb, and I’ll take your orders!
$ Citrus Joe: Daughter-in-law Amy Griffin, an actress on Broadway in “The Grinch Stole Christmas”, was on the Today Show and will be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
$ Peg: $5 so I can talk! Wonderful 12-day cruise following the journeys of the Apostle Paul to Greece and Turkey. Flew from JFK to Munich, then in a small twin-engine plane over the snowy Alps & Dolomites to Venice with its canals, glassware, the beauty of St Mark’s Square and all those pigeons! Thrilled to actually be at the Parthenon atop the Acropolis in Athens, one of the 7 wonders of the world. Most of the ancient sites are atop mountains—lots of strenuous climbing over rough ground. Celebrated my 75th birthday with the group in Ephesus, Turkey, and with a flaming cake and serenade in the ship’s dining room! Had an extra day in Frankfurt due to a missed connection, hosted by Lufthansa—hotel, meals, and overnight necessities. 9-hour flight next day on a crowded 747 in the almost last row—took me 2 days to get the brain back on Eastern Time! Thanks to Booker for stand-in editoring!
$ Kathy: Thanks to Botsy for offering his shop for storage of food & toys. He explained to his customer about Kiwanis, and then, under the towel over his arm, gave me the “Secret Kiwanis Handshake”!
$ Booker: My computer died, and had multiple problems during reformatting, so had to get a new one. But this time I had just backed up all my files, so I’m now good to go!
$ Botsy: For the quality time with Kiwanians in the back of my shop!
$ Eve: The East Greenbush School District has approved me for tenure!
$ Dick J: Welcome to Pastor Loesch! Peg, since you “followed in the footsteps of Paul”, did you find out what size shoe he wore? {Sorry, but I think he wore sandals!}
$ Beacon Bob: I’m very grateful for the presence of all my brothers and sisters in the clergy. I may not always be a beacon, but I know I’m a deacon, because the Bishop said I was!
DOOR PRIZE, provided by Beacon Bob, was won by our guest, Deacon Frank Lukovitz!
50/50 for $24 was won by Citrus Joe!
MEGA 50/50 worth $170 defeated Fred Jeschke again, who picked the wrong King (of Diamonds)!
