ANNOUNCEMENTS
Key Club Vice President Connor explained to those who wondered where President Bob was and why the two students were running the meeting that, as during Key Club Week in past years, tonight was the Annual Kiwanis/Key Club Officer Exchange and that he and President Liz were filling in for our President Bob and he, Bob, will return the favor at an upcoming meeting of each of their clubs.
INTERCLUB REPORT (Fred Wurtemberger): President Bob will be the speaker at Hoosick Falls at noon on Tuesday the 14th. We need one more to make an interclub (Pres. Bob, Booker and Fred are going). Contact Fred if you would like to go.
Citrus Joe – yes sales have started so get your forms and assist. The club is starting a new tradition: the individual who turns in the most sales for the week (must be received BEFORE the meeting) will be the first in the dinner line. This week it is Ken Noland.
YCP#1 Chair Jerry – announced that a tour of the KTPU at AMC has been arranged for both Key Clubs this Wednesday. The Bells of Life are ready to begin both at Crossgates and also at Miller’s.
Community Services Co-chair John reminded the club of the reoccurring project at the Doors of Hope Food Pantry. The next delivery to unload and store will be on Tuesday the 14th. Ken Noland and Ken James signed up.
Spiritual Aims Chair Bob needs to recruit 4 ushers for the Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service to be held at the Church of the Covenant at 7 PM on Sunday the 19th. Signed up so far are Ron Wagner, Eve Ward and Bill Whipple. If you would like to help contact Bob.
President Elizabeth read two thank you cards form the students that the club has recently assisted; Russell Chamberlin a recipient of a computer in the Computers for Youth program and Margot Kopache whom the club sent to the Key Leader weekend in Warwick.
PROGRAM
President Liz updated the club as to the activates of the Columbia High School Key Club.
The club is or has participated in Trick or Treat for UNICEF, the Adopt-A-Highway with our club, the K Family Day of Service at the Regional Food Bank and plans many other activities.
Connor reported that the Averill Park High School club has held a face painting fund raiser, participated in freshman orientation, took part in the Leukemia Walk, Butler Park Beautification, the K Family Day at the Regional Food Bank and Key Club Divisional activities. They also held a Parents’ Pizza night and participated in the highway cleanup. They plan to tour the KPTU, volunteer at Crossgates Mall for the Bells of Life, sponsor a blood drive at the High School and hold a fund raiser (Penny Worth) where the four classes compete against one another in collecting pennies in a carboy while stuffing the other classes’ carboys with either silver coins or bills.
BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES: We sang to Scott Paul in order to celebrate his November Birthday (although some thought it was his anniversary) absent but with birthdays this month were Peg Weiss and Doug Baldrey also absent and with an anniversary this month was KVP. Assisting with the celebrations was an excellent pumpkin cake from Eve.
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Chris – while assisting with the citrus sale and membership drive at the West Sand Lake Fire House on Saturday, he was approached by a young woman who told him he was in Kiwanis – she knew because she remembered that he had dropped of a Food & Gift basket at her house last year. It’s a good thing the beard has grown back as much as it has or she might not have recognized him.
$ Barb – happy that both Liz and Conner could be with us tonight.
$ John Brownrigg: happy for the extra help the Key Clubbers provided for the Adopt-A-Highway and Butler Park Beautification project.
$ Kelly – happy to be able to work with a great group of kids in Key Club!
$ Joe Behson: it’s the start of Citrus Sales and I had a GREAT WEEKEND!
$ Ken Noland: we celebrated my wife’s birthday.
$ Pablo Martinez: $50 Happy Dollars for the Halloween Bash at JavaNet Beanery! 100 kids had a great time, and won some cash prizes! Wow!
$ IPLG Chet: Joe had a good day at the track and came in tenth (but he did run out of gas.)
$ IPP Alison: “I have a new respect for Ken Noland! I am painting my kitchen and never knew it was such hard work!!”
DOOR PRIZE provided by Barb, was won by Clayton Besch!
50/50 for $24.50 was won by the over worked and under paid club secretary (and this week’s Sandpiper editor) Dave Booker.
MEGA 50/50 triumphed again! Bob Carpenter found the 10 of Diamonds. Thus tonight’s $141 will grow again next week when there will be only 42 cards!
