PROGRAM

          Elder member Doug Baldrey, who can’t seem to stay retired, returned with another thought provoking program, this time asking us to test our Critical Thinking Skills.  That actually calls for an assumption of ability, but given the benefit of doubt, we stumbled on.  Doug asked the members to recall their beginning salary at the start of their careers, and then compare it with the highest salary made, probably now, for those still working, or at retirement for the rest of us.  Quite a jump in most cases—probably a double-digit increase is usual.  Think of what the future increases will be!  Think of what events contribute to this increase.  Minimum wage is now $7.15/hr—think of what it used to be, not too long ago.  Oil is now $93.50/bbl—in 1999 it was $20/bbl!  A rise to $100/bbl is not out of the question, and this is a NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCE!  All current solutions to these problems are economically unfeasible on a large-scale basis.  There is an experi-mental car that gets 100 miles to the gallon, but it’s not in production.  Electric cars are great, but it takes fuel to produce electricity!  40 of NY’s 62 counties are spending $300,000 on bio-fuel – 8.5 million gallons – still not practical.  Using agricultural acreage to grow produce for bio-fuel cuts down on the space to grow FOOD.  Land is not infinite!  People will NOT change their lifestyles enough to make a difference!  THINK ABOUT IT!

HAPPY DOLLARS

$       Chris:  SOX BEAT ROX!  And I was able to attend Game 6 against Cleveland!

$       Booker:  BOSTON BEATS ALL!  The Patriots won too!

$       Kelly:  I’m so glad baseball is OVER!

$       Eve:  Last Sat I attended a great wine & cheese tasting at the Grafton Inn with Booker, Peg, and Jean Andrick, and I won……..a COOK BOOK!

$       Sarah:  For Tony, a great choice to replace me at Millers.  Tony:  “I’m a Yankee fan!”

$       Botsy:  I sold a box of nuts for $10!  “We’re putting a barbershop in Millers!”  to which he replied, “My haircuts are better than your produce!”  {This club is getting out of hand!}

DOOR PRIZE, provided by Doug, was won by Bruce Perry!  {See what happens when you come!}

NEXT WEEK    Meeting will be back at the Lakeview Inn—turn your clocks BACK Sat night!
