ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY/TRASHBUSTERS report: Last Sat very successful! 46 Key
Clubbers from both schools worked with Kathy, Pres Bob, Kelly, and Brownrigg,
who took some of the KCs to Butler Park to finish the Beautification Project!
Pres Bob supervised the Rt 351 cleanup, and received the “Presidential Salute”
from an AP Key Clubber, who was MOST embarrassed to learn that the “cop” she
saluted was our esteemed club president, and ALSO a police
officer!
Ø SPONSORED YOUTH: Key Club Parents Night was successful. SLKs attending were Barb, Chris, Kelly, Dale Hall, and Booker.
KIWANIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
Immediate Past President Alison presented this prestigious award to Robert “Botsy” Rosenberger for his outstanding service to Kiwanis ideals, his cheerful willingness to work on any project needed, and his quiet assistance to anyone he could help. CONGRATULATIONS, Botsy! He was probably the first to receive not just one, but TWO plaques—one was from the Kiwanis Club of SANDY Lake!
PROGRAM
John Glasser
introduced Sand Lake’s Town Historian Judy Rowe, who gave many examples of why
she fe
els
privileged to have this job. Sand Lake’s history dates back to Indian times:
the canoe displayed in the NY State Museum came from Glass Lake, and Burden
Lake Country Club is built on land which once was an Indian village. She has
worked with Eagle Scout candidates
on their projects, and is working on a new book about Sand Lake {I need
pictures, especially from the Kiwanis members and
projects!} During the Anti-Rent Wars, a Rensselaer County sheriff was
killed, and is buried in Sand Lake Cemetery in the Boughton plot. Moscow the
horse served his master in the Civil War, and is buried in SL Cemetery in the
Averill plot. Judy has been invited to join the Dutch Barns Society. NYS
Governor Marcy served in SL politics prior to being elected governor, and also
served in Abraham Lincoln’s cabinet. Judy likes to help out fellow
historians, and has a bottle collection from the glass factory at Glass Lake.
The Underground Railroad operated by Abolitionists was very active in Sand
Lake, and she showed a copper token which was the price of a human slave at
the time. She is helping with a new book being written about the infamous 19th
century madam Mame Fay in Troy.
Kelly Stone thanked Judy for her talk and presented the Certificate of Appreciation.
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ IPP Alison: Nobody noticed my hair cut! I had 10” cut off for Locks of Love! {Nice going, Alison—a most worthy cause!}
$ Joe Cub: Great trip to Poland with my brother. Also went to Amsterdam, and what happened in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam! {Now you’ve got us wondering, Joe!}
$ Eve: Terrific weekend in Maine—BIG waves over the road, gorgeous weather, and a great pizza party in Pasquarellis’ room!
$ Barb: Columbia Key Club is coming along nicely—had 13 at Trashbusters Day!
$ Deacon Bob: Nice trip to Laconia, NH, and then joined the group in York, Maine. Got a new car, Jeep Cherokee, that has everything but a chauffeur! {Several SLKs offered!}
$ Jim C: Great weekend in Maine—thought I knew these people before, but now I know I do! Learned to play bocce on the beach—the honest way!
$ Joe B: Booker & I won the pool tournament at an unnamed location!
$ Brownrigg: For those 46 kids who worked at Trashbusters and Butler Park! And also for the “quiet” ringing of the bell, Pres Bob!
$ Ken Noland: For my wife Nadine coming tonight!
$ Jim R: Trupia and I were the other half of that pool tournament. Somebody takes the others to lunch—not just sure how that works! Also for my oldest grandson Tristan’s 10th birthday, and for the trip to Maine we took our German friends on. Weather and colors were great. We walked the Marginal Way {so did Peg & the Colabellis} which was magnificent with waves crashing in on the rocks!
$ KVP: Tough keeping up with our 2 grandsons’ sports schedules. Went to 3 hockey games, one football game, and 2 soccer games, none of them local either! Both boys scored well!
$ Chet: Go-kart racing is OVER! Joe came in 3rd, and won $10! He’s in technology classes, and needs a lawn mower to work on.
$ Kelly: For the amazing showing of 46 Key Clubbers to work!
$ Scott Paul: Was diagnosed with leukemia early in summer, but now in beginning remission! Wife & daughter bought 3 cheeseburgers at the Food Trailer, and thought they were great! She works at Little League concession--where do you buy the burgers? And also for wife Donna’s birthday this Friday—didn’t forget!
$ Bill Whipple: For son John’s 40th birthday, and our 42nd wedding anniversary!
DOOR PRIZE, a Grandma’s Pie from John Glasser, was won by Joe Grillo!
50/50 for $33 was won by Ken’s wife Nadine Noland!
MEGA 50/50 worth $91.50 tonight eluded Dudley, who picked one away from the King of Clubs—the Ace of Clubs from the 46 remaining cards! Should be worth more than $100 next week!
