PRESIDENT Robert R. Loveridge presiding
GREETINGS & INVOCATION by Ken VanPraag
PRESENTATION: With an admonition to the members of the House Committee to carefully guard our regalia each meeting to prevent misappropriation, {such as the Hoosick Falls interclub taking our gavel at last week’s installation}, Sec Dave presented Chair Dudley Dorr with a miniature gavel. “Deciding it needed cleaning, they put it through the washer and dryer, and it shrunk!” Dave then gave Pres Bob our real gavel, returned to our interclub at their installation last week! Overcome with emotion at yet another touching Kiwanis moment, Pres Bob related his rewarding experience volunteering at the Salt Lake City Olympics, which was surpassed only by the joy of receiving, upon his installation as president of SLK, the HUGE GOLD Kiwanis ring which he proudly wears on its red, white, & blue ribbon around his neck! {applause as it was withdrawn!}
WELCOME BACK, Joe Trupia!

PROGRAM
Peg Weiss, Club Bulletin Chair, outlined the purpose of publishing a weekly bulletin, and how we can make it better and more meaningful to our members. The Sandpiper has rarely missed a weekly publication in too many years to count. Whenever there has been a meeting, there has been a Sandpiper. It has won excellence awards for several consecutive years, both for print and e-mail. Because a bulletin’s main purpose is COMMUNICATION, we keep trying to find ways to entice you to READ it! Lacking the unique sense of humor possessed by the previous editor, we try to enhance the paper so it will pique your interest. Those who receive it electronically benefit from Dave’s talent with pictures and music. We are open to suggestions from you at all times. Previous programs have dealt with cost in time and money. Mailing expense has been reduced by e-mail. At present I mail only 15 copies. We think The Sandpiper could better serve the club if each committee chair would use it for their individual purposes. We will happily print your messages, if you please submit them in writing to me on Monday evenings. Give me the signup sheets after they have circulated, and I will print the details of schedules, volunteers, etc, and mail the sheets back to you. People sign up for work, but frequently forget times, dates, etc. This could be a reminder to everyone. This is especially true for ongoing projects such as the Food Trailer, Trashbusters, Doors of Hope, program assignment commitments, interclubs, and especially for the Education & Membership Committee. Pres Bob has a goal of educating ourselves in the history and traditions of the club. Work with him in presenting items of interest each week—we will print it! At present there are only two members of the Club Bulletin Committee, and we could use some intermittent help. When I am absent, it is very difficult for Dave to take notes in addition to his secretarial duties at each meeting. Jim Colabelli has graciously offered to help, and we could use a backup or two, just to take notes—Dave will type and print. Thanks!
