PROGRAM

Doug Baldrey introduced his former colleague at HVCC, now Executive Director of the Troy YMCA, Jackie McDonough, who presented an overview of the Y’s program and services. The Capital District YMCA serves more than 90,000 people each year, including nearly 40,000 youth and teens. Almost half, under the age of 18, receive scholarship assistance for equal access to Ys. Core services are Child Care, Youth & Family Development, Health & Fitness, and Camping. The Y’s commitment is to building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. The annual campaign, REACH OUT FOR YOUTH, seeks donations to support these programs that keep kids safe before and after school, do academic tutoring, and teach life skills such as cooking, laundry, and budgeting income. Financial support comes from individuals, businesses, and service organizations. The Troy Y needs over $1 million per year to serve 22,000 kids. Programs are run not only at YMCAs, but also in churches, senior centers, etc. Volunteers are always needed.
Kelly Stone thanked Jackie and presented her with our Certificate of Appreciation.
HAPPY DOLLARS
· Chris, for my new Key Club co-advisor, Kelly. Had 57 kids at 1st meeting! {Due to Kelly?}
· Ken Noland, for no serious injuries when some lady hit my truck!
· Barb, for Ken donating last week’s door prize of wine for our anniversary; Gene & I enjoyed it very much! Also, we are going to need help with Columbia’s Key Club.
· Jim Colabelli: Jan got a great new car, with lots of “goodies”. It tells me where to go! {Does it tell Jan where YOU are?} Also, after 18 years, we finally had our driveway paved!
· Jim Rogers: Your paving crew blocked the road, too! Also, my granddaughter will be 6!
· Joe Behson: Now that I’m a certified tennis instructor, I have a new business called The Tennis Coach! {He’s a real swinger!} (Specializes in senior women!}
· Scott Paul: Glad to be back after a super busy summer with Little League baseball!
· Jackie: Just glad to be here, even if I don’t know anyone!
· Booker, for a great weekend in Maine where the weather was perfect for my new car! Had a lot of fun with it.
· KVP: Yes, Maine was terrific. I also rode in Dave’s car, front & back seat, and had my jacket on! How come no one on the trip talked about Kiwanis except Booker? He even had all his records and forms with him! Is that red face from sunburn?
· Peg: I ALSO rode in Dave’s back seat, and that takes agility! Had a wonderful time, especially the lighthouse cruise. Took many pictures of Nubble Light just for Eve! Ask Fred how he and Shirley happened to get to Augusta!
DOOR PRIZE, provided by Doug, was won by Fred Wurtemberger!
50/50 for $ 30 was won by Eve!
MEGA 50/50 is growing, worth $50 tonight, and will keep growing, because Doug Baldrey could only come up with the 8 of Diamonds out of 49 cards.
