ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ø We are down to 5 members who are delinquent in paying their dues.
Ø John Brownrigg announced that those volunteering for the Doors of Hope Food Pantry at 10 AM tomorrow are: Booker, KVP, Joe Trupia, Ken James & Bruce Perry. [Having just unloaded nearly 4900# of food – gratefully, it can be reported that Woodie Hacker and his grandson, Mikki and her nephew, Bob Pasquarelli and Jim and Terry Parslow assisted!]
Ø John also announced that the Aug 30 blood drive at the Church of the Covenant has been rescheduled for December 27.
Ø
Bob
Pasquarelli informed the club that the trailer walls and ceiling are all but
done, now comes the floor and the cabinets the
outside
needs a good steam cleaning. He can use any volunteers on Tuesday afternoon
or Wednesday; John Brownrigg will need help on Saturday starting at 9 AM.
Ø President Bob presented Dudley with a patch for our banner from the NY District in recognition of the club’s participation in the annual Outreach Campaign.
Ø President Bob read a notice from Key Club Lt. Governor Liz inviting any who would like to join the Key Clubbers at the Divisional Training Conference for a work project at the Northeast Regional Food Bank September 15 at 11:30 AM.
Ø President Bob read a “thank you note” from Kay-Leigh Stacy for the honor of being presented the SLKC’s Memorial Award at the APHS Senior Awards Night.
Ø Joe Cybulski again thanked those SLKC members who attended the Charlie Smith Blues Band performance as Sunday’s concert for the Music in the Park. He also inquired as to “where the van is?” It seems that his usual ending for articles in the papers (“The Sand Lake Club is one of seven in the Van Rensselaer Division”) was changed to read “The Sand Lake Club is one of seven in the Van.”
Ø (photo on right) Chris Blais was asked by President Bob how the Key Club was doing with the baked goods sale at the Sunday concerts and when Chris was done Bob presented him with a 3 year tab for his three years of perfect attendance.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION: Bob Pasquarelli and Chet Melius were called forward to induct our newest member into the club. With the assistance of sponsor Jim Colabelli, Jeremy Vosburgh was informed that he was not only joining a great international organization with nearly 300,000 members in over 8,500 clubs in over 90 countries but also probably the best individual club in the Capital Area. Before he was give the chance to inform the club about himself Jeremy was presented with the new member packet including the coveted “SLKC Doohickey.”
A resident of the Town, Jeremy was born and breed in Sand Lake. After attending APHS he studied engineering at RPI, found a job he likes, married “a girl born 2 days before me, both at St. Peter’s”. He sings in a number of choirs and chorale groups and loves two sports baseball (Bryce, he’s a Mets fan) and cricket. He and wife - Jen - live on Shaver Road and the job he loves is with DSI in Postenkill. (He’ll indicate why he loves the job in his program)
PROGRAM:

Flushed from having been inducted into the club, Jeremy Vosburgh was introduced by Jim Colabelli. Jeremy began his presentation with the fact that the company he works for produces “Gleebles”! (It was at this point that our members quieted down as none of us knew what a Gleeble is.) Jeremy’s answer to his self imposed question “Jeremy, what is a Gleeble?” was simply “A wonderful thing!”
Jeremy, who obviously has a passion for both engineering and metals, went on to explain that the “Gleeble” was a patented machine/process which can be used to test the effects of very high and quick temperature change (heating and cooling at the rate of 20000 ° F/second) and extremes of pressures on different metals. DSI sells the machine worldwide and Jeremy travels the world helping to install the machines and train the operators. He shared with us that he loved France and found India to be lacking in a number of areas (mainly in the areas of food hygiene and sanitation.)
Although tired out from making the presentation – Jeremy was able to respond to a question concerning fatigue and failure (the recent collapse of the bridge in WI) and distilled 6 years of engineering studies on the subject to a brief account of the effects on the molecular level when a piece of metal is repeatedly forced out of shape and then forced back.
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Eve started off the happy dollars by recounting the wonderful 4 day weekend that she had just returned from spent in Maine.
$ Jim Rogers countered with the 4 days he and Joanne had spent in Plymouth, MA.
$ John Brownrigg’s weekend was in Montréal and he cautioned all to allow a great deal of time for crossing the border either way.
$ Kevin Sarsfield reported that he had again represented SLKC (although not as successfully as last year) at the Delmar Kiwanis’s Golf Outing in support of the AMC’s KPTU .
$ Fred Wurtemberger gave a happy dollar in appreciation of Jeremy’s program and that it had caused him to remember an old friend (Hugo Fergusson) who what helped develop DSI.
$ Jim Colabelli was very pleased at not only arranging for Jeremy’s being the program tonight but also for sponsoring him as a new member (even if it did take some 2 or 3 years).
$ Joe Cybulski remembered pleasantly that he had know Jeremy when Joe had been a member of the Town Board and Jeremy ran the AV system that put the meetings on the cable 13 years ago.
$ Jeremy returned the complement to Jim saying that he was pleased to have him as a friend and sponsor; he was additionally happy because he had just been at a family reunion for his mother’s family where he had been able to met members from both sides of her family.
DOOR PRIZE a silver foil wrapped something provided by Jim was won by Clayton.
50/50 for $24.00 was won by Fred Wurtemberger.
MEGA 50/50 is still alive! John Brownrigg gave it a shot but pulled out the Jack of Clubs from the remaining 24 cards – had it been the King of Clubs he would have won $107.00
