ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ø As of this meeting there are 11 members who have not paid their 2007-08 dues. They will be in arrears to the club if the dues are not paid by Wednesday.
Ø If you are a veteran of any of the US armed services please let Sec. Dave know (davidbooker@nycap.rr.com) the branch and dates of service. The NY District wants to honor ALL the NY Kiwanian veterans at the Buffalo convention. The original sign up sheet is being kept safe and sound by one of our members who was at the meeting when it was passed around – so even if you already gave the information (on that sign up sheet) please call or email it again this week.
Ø Anyone wanting a District Convention general schedule, forum schedule or registration form please see the secretary.
Ø Eve Ward has the tickets for the Annual Outing to the Joe on Monday August 20. If you have not picked them up from her (and paid for them) by the end of next week’s meeting you will have to call her to make arrangements. She will NOT be giving any tickets out at the Joe!!
Ø For the absent Community Services Chair John – KVP and Dick Johnsen were reminded that they have a commitment to unload the food delivery at the Doors of Hope on Friday (Aug. 3) at 10 am.
Ø Summerfest Sausage Joe was very grateful when he informed the club that ALL the extra meat had been sold either to members or to a committee to donate as a project.
Ø
Mikki told the club that one of the Summerfest talent Show
entries (a Latin dance company) was appearing weekly at Noche Lounge on
Wednesdays. She and John
went
last week and really enjoyed the dancing.
Ø “Music in the Park” Joe reminded the club that this Sunday at 6 pm in Butler Park “The Bill Dexter Quartet” will kick off the Music in the Park concerts. Joe was very consistent when he answered “Sunday” to the 6 questions asking on which day the concerts were this year.
Ø
President-designate Joe thanked those who had taken the time to
respond to the questionnaire about this year’s Summerfest. He shared some of
the comments “three days are enough”, “we need four days for Summerfest”,
“this was the right time of July to hold it”, “it should be held during the
last week in July”, “the fireworks on S
unday
were GREAT – keep it on Sunday”. “move the fireworks back to Saturday”. He
passed all the comments on to President-elect (and Summerfest Chair) designate
Jerry.
Ø Jerry reviewed the few Summerfest sponsors who need a follow up visit to collect the pledges.
PROGRAM:

KVP, Joe Behson, Dudley and Bob Pasquarelli reviewed their experiences at the San Antonio International Convention.
KVP – who has now attended 22 International Conventions was very disappointed
by what the convention had to offer: the participation seems to be dropping
off at a faster rate each year; the issues vote on by the house of delegates
had very little relevance to the workings of the individual clubs; the forum
on the IRS 501(c)3 status centered on money and he feels that the foundations
(either international, district or club) have become more important than the
parent organization. He loved San Antonio on the whole and the River Walk in
particular.
For
Joe this was his first international convention. He was very impressed with
the opening c
eremony.
He was amazed that he was able to find the others from the club and division
among so many Kiwanians.
This convention was not like Hawaii for Dudley. He could not get used to the high humidity and the 100 degrees in the shade temperatures. As a delegate he agreed with KVP that most of the time in the House of Delegates the time was spent on issues that would not interest the clubs.
Bob felt that although the issues dealt with by the House of Delegates were mostly “house keeping” concerning the International By-laws. He was impressed by the emphasis being placed on the transition of Kiwanis as a “good organization” becoming a “great organization”. He feels that we as a club have to decide if the Sand Lake Kiwanis is going to remain stuck were it is or also evolve into a “great club”.
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Joe Cybulski enjoyed his weekend trip to Philadelphia and the King Tut exhibit.
$ Jim Rogers was very concerned when they started to smell hydrogen sulfide in the water. It seems that the last time the water was tested was 42 years ago, He was very relived to learn that all he has to do is change the anode rods in his hot water heater and not treat all the water for H2S.
$ Joe Behson [anticipating a happy time] Saturday he is having a birthday party for his mother in honor of her 94th birthday.
$ Dudley enjoyed his two weeks in Shreveport, LA after the convention [he was starting to get used to the 100 degrees in the shade weather.
$ Jerry Tysiak was very impressed with a true renaissance man; Bob Pasquarelli not only presented the program but also provided the invocation and greeted the members.
DOOR PRIZE one of the extra meals was won by Ron Wagner
50/50 for $16.00 was won by Dudley
MEGA 50/50 is still alive! Jim Rogers gave it a shot but pulled out the 5 of Hearts – had he found the elusive King of Clubs from among the 46 cards he would have won $80.00
