INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBER

Sec Dave Booker introduced Ray Loveridge, a former member who has seen the error of his ways, and is rejoining, sponsored by his son, Pres Bob Loveridge. Ray is a most active octogenarian and was a super salesman with the 50/50 tickets all weekend! Dave presented Ray with all the regalia of membership, including the famous doo-hickey. Pres Bob commented that he had known Ray “most of my life, and that there was a time when our height levels were reversed!” He also commented that Ray probably knew much more than any other new member about what he was getting himself into. Comment from an unknown SLK: Is this the comedy team of Bob and Ray?
PROGRAM

Pres-Elect Joe Behson conducted a SummerFest Postmortem, thanking all who contributed in any way to a complete community success, despite lots of “glitch-fixing!” 42 members participated—85% of our membership! He showed a video of Channel 9’s news feature, including a brief interview with Pres Bob, a shot of Ron Wagner cooking some of the hundreds of burgers, kids on rides, the dunking booth (but not when the 3 SLK dunkees were dropped!), and the comments of some of the thousands of attendees. The reporter has re-christened us “Kiwan-ees”, and the event has now become the “Sand Lake Kiwan-ee Fest”! Joe said he was happy to have helped raise money for the elementary playground by being a dunking victim, along with Pres Bob and Kevin Smith, but was shocked at the cold temperature, and the condition of the water! The consensus of opinion was that this year’s 2-½ day event was good, and the early date was very favorably received by SLK workers, and the community—a good introduction to summer! There will be a general comment sheet circulated next week, so let’s have your suggestions. Wristbands worked well, as did having “sentries” at the road entrance to control parking. We learned a lot from the road race, which will benefit next year’s event. The Food Tent workers were great—flow lines went well after reconfiguration! We do have leftovers! FOR SALE: sausages, burgers, bagged & cut up onions and peppers, all of which are now safely frozen. Call Joe @ 674-8407 with your orders, and to make arrangements for pickup. Jerry Tysiak reported that some sponsor money is still outstanding, but at this point SF 2007 appears to be a financial success, too. Gillette Rides thinks they will be available next year, and the early date fits their schedule much better. Alonzo Fireworks were impressed with our efficient organization, especially with the no parking zones. Pres Bob’s work crew was terrific--very helpful and polite young men and women.
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Eve: My grandson came in second in the 5K race, and then broke his foot playing Frisbee! I offer a slogan for SummerFest: FUN—FOOD—FELLOWSHIP—and FRUSTRATION!
$
Jerry: For
the community, friends, spouses & significant others who WORKED!
$ Joe Cub: For all the help with great publicity!
$ Booker: It took Peg 3 days to finally wear the correct tee shirt! Glad to see Joe prove that he’s all wet! And for the elderly couple who thought the fireworks were Sat night and set up their chairs early. They watched the multitude of fireflies, and commented, “Not as good as last year’s!”
$ Jim Rogers, for the rapid service of Schodack Septic in providing extra Porta-Johns when we called Saturday morning!
$ Barb: Despite Friday’s thunderstorms, all performers were successfully presented! Mikki’s Variety Show was great! I practiced my Spanish with the Fried Dough lady. And………..SUMMERFEST IS OVER!
$ Gary: What happened to the belly dancers? They were supposed to do the Dance of the Seven Veils with only 6 veils! To the group from Millers who saved the day(s)! For all the family members and friends who helped cook! And for Pres Bob’s “wife and son” who kept hollering, “Dunk him!” {Pres Bob keeps insisting he doesn’t have a wife and son!}
$ Joe B: For my first International Convention—San Antonio is great—Riverwalk—The Alamo—wonderful! And for the all who came, and worked!
$ Pres Bob: For my “wife and son” wherever they are!!
Multiple tickets were drawn for each prize because several members had left early, and the drawings became quite rowdy!
DOOR PRIZE, a San Antonio fan and Convention Tote Bag provided by Joe Behson, was won by Fred Wurtemberger! “You’re in the bag, Fred!”
50/50 for $18 was won by Barb Fioravanti!
MEGA 50/50 has grown to $63.50 but will grow some more, as Gary picked the 4 of Clubs from the 48 remaining cards. Pres Bob’s cell phone kept ringing and ringing, and Gary told him to please answer it because it was probably his “wife and son” calling to beg him to come home!
Four take out dinners were sold again this week—we are committed to pay for 22 meals each meeting. Pres Bob begged Gary to buy a couple so he could feed his “wife and son”! When Dale came up to buy one, Bob exclaimed, “Oh no—are you my son?”
