ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ø Mikki, for Community Service: Thanks to KVP, Pat Lane, and Mikki for unloading food trucks at Doors of Hope last Wednesday. Next will be Tuesday, July 15th: Bob Pasquarelli, & KVP @ 9AM.
Ø Membership dues are now past due for all members who have not paid them.
Ø Eve, for Social Committee: Next week will be our Recuperation Picnic at Butler Park at 6 PM. Sign-ups are a must, both for a head count, and to indicate what food you will be bringing. Bring chairs, and card tables if you wish them. Guests are definitely welcome!
Ø Next Division Council will be July 22nd 6 PM at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. So far, Behson, Booker, James, Rogers, Ward & Weiss are going to the $15 buffet dinner.
Ø Governor-Elect campaign: Dave has 3 visits to go before the August convention: to Olean, near Buffalo, an overnight, with Woodie Hacker; to Ronkonkoma, on Long Island; and to Nunda, near Rochester. Please support our candidate however you can.
Ø Joe Cybulski announced that arrangements have been completed for our August “Music in the Park” series, every one of the 5 Sundays beginning at 6 PM. The Key Club plans to hold bake sales at a couple of them. In case of rain, the concerts will be held at the SL Center for the Arts building, across from Tremont’s Lumber on Rt 43.
SUMMERFEST WRAPUP
SF Chair Jerry Tysiak sent sheets around for members to record the number of hours they worked on Summerfest, and the locations of their work. He expressed his thanks to all who worked: members, friends, families, and other groups who helped out in so many ways to make our biggest project successful. This was the first time SF has been held on 4th of July weekend, making it 3 ½ days instead of 2 ½ but it was well organized. Kudos to Bob Loveridge’s crew of county-
ordered community service workers! They worked hard and well, and were most pleasant. Bob
also did a great job organizing the 50/50, with Chris Blais the super salesman on Sat! Total sold was $1630, with $815 going to the lucky winner (a young man), and to SLK! The pre-event publicity was excellent in all media aspects, and a most welcome pictorial followup in the Record was displayed. The sports events were well attended. Tennis had 32 players in 6 divisions, softball
had 4 teams, and the road race saw about 70 entrants. Our food sales saw a slight increase due to the extra day, but not enough to justify the extra expenses of fireworks and bands.

PROGRAM
Interclub Chair Fred Wurtemberger explained that an interclub is four or more members visiting another club’s meeting or event, for which we receive credit. Our goal is to make two Round Robins each year, which means visiting each club in the Division twice in the Kiwanis administrative year. We benefit by meeting new people from other clubs, learning about their activities, with both clubs sharing ideas for the good of their communities. We have visited outside of our Van Rensselaer Division, with some members reminiscing about trips to Montreal, Rhode Island, Maine, Long Island, Liverpool, and the Finger Lakes. One time several years back, SLK conducted an Interclub BLITZ, which is visiting all division clubs in one WEEK! It happened near St Patrick’s Day, and resulted in a LOT of corned beef and cabbage dinners! Some clubs meet for breakfast or lunch, as well as dinners¸ and that meant three meetings on the same day for one of those days! We usually car pool, and interclubs can be lots of fun.
JULY BIRTHDAYS: Clayton Besch, Joe Trupia (both were present - shown below on left), Bob Carpenter,& Kathy Evensen (both must have been celebrating at home).

JULY ANNIVERSARIES: John & Suzanne Brownrigg, Mikki McSherry & John Simonds, Ken & Nadine Noland, Bob Carpenter & Joan Gross, Jeff & Sharon Lawrence, Dave & Laurie Leckonby and Kevin & Cheryl Smith. John and Mikki were present (and shown on right above) while the others missed our acknowledgement of their anniversaries.
We sang to those few who were present, and Eve’s magnificent American flag cake was delicious!
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Bob Pasquarelli, for this Club and its hard workers! The Food Tent was well staffed with SLKs, Key Clubbers, & Circle Kers! And even for Gary who was constantly asking me questions, but worked hard, and picked through trash to retrieve deposit containers, and gave the money to the Club!
$ John Brownrigg: The Kiwanis Magazine mentioned some traits of greatness of a Club, and two apply particularly: The mission is so clear that everyone wants to give their time, talent, and treasure. And, the fun and laughter is so contagious that members are still smiling on the way home! That was US this past weekend! The teamwork and camaraderie was wonderful. To Bob Reiter who saved the beer concession at the last minute, at possible personal peril, and now he has talked me into going back to VietNam with him! To Ken James who bailed out another member, new to SLK, but who shall remain nameless, who offered to buy ice cream treats before remembering that she had “forgotten” her wallet! Summerfest concluded well—Botsy’s grill is no longer warped! TONIGHT is Suzanne’s and my 35th wedding anniversary, but she gave me permission to attend tonight’s meeting. It only cost me a trip to Montreal and two kittens!
$ Bob Reiter: It was a great Summerfest, plus, my baby got married last month with the wedding of her dreams!
$ Skip Patton: Thanks to all who helped with a very successful road race! {He named names, but the ED didn’t catch them quickly enough!}
$ Gary: To Bob Pasquarelli, for a tremendous, outstanding, exceptional job organizing the Food Tent! To Bob Reiter, for saving the beer concession! And, my daughter and son-in-law brought my two munchkins down from Schuylerville on Saturday!
$ Kevin Sarsfield, for the Summerfest “virgins” who now know what it is!
$ Eve, for everyone who helped, but especially Suzanne Brownrigg, Rose Dorr, my daughter Amy, and granddaughter Alex, who helped me as cashier for MANY HOURS!
$ Joe Cub, for Jerry, who’s no longer a Summerfest virgin, showing all club members that you get lots of help with this big job, so please, volunteer for an office! And to this club, who made all my PR come true!
$ Jim Colabelli: For Jerry—great job! And you looked so relaxed and composed throughout! For the help of Ken James and Jim Rogers with organizing the vendors. And for Bob Loveridge, for all the “official” help you provided—cars, lights, officers, and the dog!
$ Chet Melius: For the Burden Lake CC 50/50 which I won for many $$! {And then amid much raucus laughter at his table, Chet said something about someone’s daughter smacking him in the head! Come on, guys, the ED doesn’t take shorthand!!}
$ Jim Rogers: I missed Summerfest, but for a very good reason—my hometown’s bicentennial, where the park was dedicated, and my family’s names were part of it! I saw some relatives I hadn’t seen in 40 years! Sorry I missed the big weekend, but I thank Jim and Ken who checked on all the crafters, and to Jerry for a great job!
$ Scott Paul: I’m sorry I missed Summerfest, too, but I had a better reason! My wife gave birth to Katelyn Samantha, 7 lbs 4 oz, 18”!!! And my son made the All Stars in both leagues he plays in!
$ Barb Fioravanti: I thought everything went well, but I’m most happy for Mikki’s variety show! She had it so well organized, with many enjoyable acts. Great job!
$ Bill Whipple, for Jim Colabelli, the one man band in the parade!
$ Nancy Davis, for all the cars in the parade!
$ Armand Mills, for Jerry’s superb leadership…….many hours of dedication!!
$ Jerry Tysiak: I thank the whole Club for everyone’s help in making a successful Summerfest. I’m so grateful to the Boy Scouts who volunteered their help with the road race, marched in the parade, and then put up 4 tents faster than Brownrigg, and without any adult help! But the crowning achievement was Saturday night, just before the fireworks, when my daughter, Olenna, came and told me that she had just become engaged to be married!!!
DOOR PRIZE, an IOU from Fred, was won by Joe Cybulski!
50/50 for $28 was won by Peg!
MEGA 50/50: Peg’s ticket was drawn, again, but it didn’t help! There were only 7 cards from which to choose, but she could only manage to pull out the 7 of Spades! So tonight’s pot of $795.10 will grow even bigger next week! The bucks are mounting, folks!!!
