INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION REPORT

Dave Booker reported that there were 3634 delegates in attendance in Montreal.  They treated us to a parade and fireworks, which may have had something to do with the fact that July 1 is Canada Day, equivalent to our 4th of July!  New officers were duly elected.  Additional dues for the new members will not be charged for one year if we get a 25% net increase in membership.  Next year’s international convention will be in San Antonio, TX.

PROGRAM

Bob Pasquarelli, Membership & Education Chair, outlined the work of his committee, which consists of Dave Booker, John Brownrigg, Jeff Lawrence, & Bill Whipple.  They provide to all members, educational materials such as the small brochures at each place.  They also hold orientation sessions with all prospective new members, educating them to the purposes of Kiwanis.  This year we inducted five new members, Mikki, Skip, Scott, Sarah, & Pablo, and welcome prospective member Ken Nolan.  The Sand Lake Club is the most active club in the Capital District, and has interesting programs and projects.  Our main objective is to bring in new active members, and keep the members we have interested in SLK!

JULY BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES:

 Birthdays:
Clayton Besch, Kathy Evensen, Joe Trupia and the absent Bob Carpenter

  Anniversaries: John & Suzanne Brownrigg.

Also celebrating their anniversaries are Jeff & Sharon Lawrence,

Mikki McSherry & John Simonds, and Kevin & Cheryl Smith. .

We sang enthusiastically, if not well, to those who were present, and enjoyed Eve’s spectacular flag cake in honor of Independence Day tomorrow!

HAPPY DOLLAR$

Woodie Hacker, for the picture Eve gave me, showing the beautiful baby shower cake she made for Marion and me 39 years ago!  We looked so young!

Jim Rogers:  today is Joanne’s birthday, and we celebrated with a great day at Cherry Plain Park with children and grandchildren!

Phil Pierce:  Happy to be back after my leave of absence, but where’s Chris?  I’m looking for a smooth faced guy, but all I see is somebody with a half grown beard!  Guess I’m too late!  Big news!!  Last month I became a GREAT-grandfather!!!  Fred & Dee are grandparents now!

Booker:  Beginning to wonder why I joined Kiwanis!  Heard the story of a doctor who suffered a severe car accident in which his wife was killed, and while he was recuperating, his fellow Kiwanians came every day to help with meals and chores.  I was in Montreal for five days, and NOBODY mowed MY lawn!!!

Botsy:  I have 22 boxes of Kiwanis peanuts!!!  Doesn’t anybody want them?

Booker:  I don’t have ANY!!!

John Brownrigg:  43 years ago I had the good sense to marry Suzanne!  Also, although we lost a couple of convenience stores in the recent flooding, no one was killed!

Gary:  Son Kevin, a captain just returned from Iraq, is now a MAJOR!!  He will be stationed at National Guard headquarters in Washington, DC.  Now who’s going to mow my lawn, and wash my truck?

Alison: As of next Wednesday, and until the 19th of July, I will be in London, England!!!!
{Will your plane land in time for the Division Council meeting?}

DOOR PRIZE provided by Bob Pasquarelli, was won by Booker!

We suspended our other drawings until next week, due to “logistical reasons”!

Our heartfelt thanks to Pablo and Amanda for allowing us to take over the Beanery for tonight’s meeting, and for the wonderful dinner they served to us!!
