SPECIAL PRESENTATION
The Kiwanis Pediatric Fellow Award was created to recognize the outstanding efforts of individual Kiwanians supporting the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Unit. For their work with Key Club, Chris Blais and Barb Fioravanti were honored with this award by District YCP#1 Chair Rick Sturm and AMC Children’s Hospital Rob Saba at the May 21st meeting. Since Barb was not present at that time, Jerry Tysiak presented Barb with her plaque and medallion tonight.
CONGRATULATIONS, BARB!
PROGRAM
House Committee Chair Dudley Dorr outlined the work of his committee: acting as liaison with the restaurant for our meals, and setting up the equipment for each meeting, with the assistance of Joe Grillo, Gary Meislin, Botsy Rosenberger, and Ron Wagner. Dudley had a picture display of meetings of decades ago, showing some of the fun things SLKs were so fond of doing. So many faces were SO young, with much more hair! The mystery (or was it history?) of the “unhung sero” was revealed, and except for the nights when wigs and masks were worn to torment the Lt. Gov. doing the SLK installation, the club observed a dress code of coats and ties at meetings. No women members back then! There were pictures of the predecessor of SummerFest, the famous Winter Carnival and its Snow Ball. And club singing was always on key, because there was a piano player to help out! Thanks, Dudley, it was fun to reminisce!
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Sarah: Thanks to Chet for helping us move perishables during the 12-½ hour power outage!
$ Eve: My oldest son is recovering well from his eye surgery, but my daughter dropped a kayak on her foot at Virginia Beach, causing a fracture! But she’s back at work!
$ Ken Noland: I have a NEW truck—a Tundra—and it’s awesome! It runs!!
$ Pablo: It drives nice, too! We’re leaving tomorrow for Colorado to visit my grandmother who is 95! Also I’m in the process of relocating The Beanery to the corner next to Subway!
$ Jim Rogers: I’m glad Ken is here tonight!
$ Jerry Tysiak, for a successful Children’s Miracle Network Telethon yesterday. Dale brought 19 Key Clubbers to answer the phones! Kiwanis International has been supporting this for 22 years, and has raised over 2.4 million dollars—almost the largest donor!
$ Dale, for 5 hours on Channel 10! Also I’m having a clam steam at my house with my daughters and their boyfriends! {Dale, are we invited, too?}
$ Deacon Bob, for the Cancer Relay—thanks to those who helped. Research takes much money, and what is raised stays here locally. Raised $694 from food trailer, our donation.
$ KVP: $1 for each of the 5 women members here tonight. They really help the club!
$ Brownrigg, for Ken Noland knowing where the SummerFest banners are! And for my advisor, the first woman in SLK.
$ Fred Wurtemberger: Glad I made it to celebrate my 75th birthday! Got my first computer, and my first digital camera, all this year!
$ Pablo, again: I’ve been with Amanda for 6 years! Trying to get her mother to come with us to Colorado.
DOOR PRIZE, provided by Dudley Dorr, was won by Jim Colabelli!
50/50 for $12.50 was won by “Freddie Hi Tech” Wurtemberger!
MEGA 50/50 is brand new this week with a full 52-card deck, and just $9.50 at stake. But John Brownrigg couldn’t find the King of Clubs—he came up with the 4 of Spades!
