ANNOUNCEMENTS

JUNE BIRTHDAYS: Dave Booker, Gary Meislin, & Fred Wurtemberger were serenaded; Joe Distell, John Glasser, Woodie Hacker, Ken James & Kevin Sarsfield were absent.

JUNE ANNIVERSARIES:  Jim & Jan Colabelli, Dudley & Rose Dorr, and Bob & Joan Pasquarelli were also serenaded; Woodie & Marion Hacker, Scott & Donna Paul, Angelo & Susan Patti, and Joe & Audrey Trupia missed the music!  But Eve’s strawberry cake was fantastic!!

PROGRAM

Youth Services Co-chair Kelly Stone introduced her colleague, Jennifer O’Neil, a social worker who has been Student Assistance Counselor at Averill Park High School for 2 years, and before that was at Algonquin Middle School for 9 years.  Her goal is to promote a health lifestyle for the students, avoiding alcohol and drugs.  She provides both individual and group counseling in weekly sessions which are confidential between the counselor and student, and may not be disclosed to either parents or school staff.  She approaches kids from a prevention angle, but also is available to students who are already users.  Weekly smoking cessation groups are held to support kids who are trying to quit.  She makes referrals as necessary to agencies such as mental health, unified services, Hudson-Mohawk, and Conifer Park.  Parent programs are held annually, and kids are welcome to attend if they wish to.  Along with School Nurse-Teacher Mrs. Flanigan, Jennifer is advisor to SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), and happily reports an 8% to 10% decrease in drug use from last year.  Bob Pasquarelli thanked Ms. O’Neil for her enlightening talk, and presented her with our Certificate of Appreciation.

HAPPY DOLLARS

$  Kelly, for Jen’s program, and for her great work at the high school!

$  Booker:  Went to Castleton’s meeting, and our newest member, Pat Lane, presented them with a check from Wal-Mart, too!  Also happy that my campaign manager, KVP, is finally here!

$  Pres Joe:  There’s no parade of Red Sox fans tonight!

$  Jim Rogers:  Just had a checkup, and I feel the best I’ve felt in 2 years—no pain!

$  Eve, for my smart grandchildren:  Both Drew and Ethan made the HS honor roll, and Stacy received her master’s degree with high honor!

$  Pat Lane:  My son-in-law finally fixed my lawn mower, and then mowed all 3 acres!

$  Brownrigg, for KVP’s return, for the temperature finally getting above 70 degrees, and for identifying that strange noise as the Yankees trying to climb out of the cellar!

$  Bob Pasquarelli:  Just had my checkup too, with PSA, and I’m now 8 years cancer free!

$  KVP:  It’s nice to be back.  I read the Sandpipers each week, and wondered at the absence of Yankee fans’ support!  I tell you again, it’s going to be a LONG season.....and the Red Sox are not in first place, either!  A sign of the not-so-good-times:  where I live in Florida, St. Lucie County, the 3rd largest growing municipality, has more than 14,000 tax delinquencies!

Dave embellished my responsibilities as his campaign manager, but I will talk to you later about this club’s responsibilities to his candidacy as District Governor-Elect.

$  Loveridge:  Dave may be a Red Sox fan, but when his back is to the wall, he calls upon the Yankee fans to help him out!

$  Chris:  I do appreciate Jen’s important job, but could she please take the kids out of someone else’s class!

$  Alison:  I’m getting married!  To Kevin Calacone!  Next year!  He gave me the ring this past weekend.  We told my parents right after we did it! ........... I mean after I got the ring!!

$  Bryce:  Welcome back, Alison!  Last week I took a tour of wonderful Fenway Park.......!  I’m glad the Yankees know it will be a really LONG season!

$  Nancy:  Don’t forget I have tickets for both the Bicentennial dinner and raffle.  Both honorees, Sid and Doris, will be there.  And a dunking booth is coming!

$  Bill Whipple:  Last year our son Scott declined officer training in favor of getting married. This year, he is now in Marine OTC!  No comment!

$  Gary:  My son Kevin is home for a week and a half from Washington, DC, and went with me to visit my daughter and my twin grandsons!

$  Chris:  This is from an “anonymous” donor (?)  You hear lots of stuff hanging out at the Java Beanery, like who was voted in high school as the “most flirtatious”, but I promised that I wouldn’t mention Nancy’s name!

DOOR PRIZE, provided by Kelly, was won by Alison Greene!

50/50 for $27 was won by Jerry Tysiak!

MEGA 50/50, now worth $635.10, defied the best efforts of Joe Cybulski, who could only find the 10 of Clubs, not the elusive King, from among the remaining 12 cards!
