ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ø Bill Glasser requested labor help for their upcoming project, building a low retaining wall for the triangular planting at the intersection of Old Rt 66 and Rt 43 in Averill Park. Work will be on Saturdays after all the bureaucratic permissions have been received. Mikki and John Brownrigg of the Community Services Committee will coordinate.
Ø DOORS OF HOPE food unloaders needed for Tuesday May 13 at 9 AM.
Ø SL Garden Club PLANT SALE needs traffic directors from 7-9 AM at Salem UMC. No one volunteered so PLEASE contact Mikki if you will help for the two hours!
Ø SKIP-A-MEAL donations needed for KI Foundation Children’s Fund.
Ø Thank you note from AP Students for Humanity for support of travel south to build houses.
Ø BLOOD SCREENING CLINIC Saturday May 17 at APHS cafeteria. Jim Rogers (for Chair Joe Trupia) circulated a signup sheet for workers.
Ø Update from NOMINATING Committee Chair Barb: We have an excellent slate for the next group of directors but are still lacking a nominee for Vice President. The biggest deterrent seems to be fear of being in charge of Summerfest. One person does not have the full load; it is shared by the VP, the current President, and the Immediate Past President, who are the steering committee. Individual events have individual chairs, so most work is delegated.
Ø GOV-ELECT CAMPAIGN: Next Monday Jim Colabelli and Peg Weiss will accompany Booker to the Council Meeting of the Long Island South Central Division. Dudley will be acting secretary for the annual meeting, and Mikki McSherry will take Sandpiper notes. “If nobody runs against you, what are your chances, Dave?”
Ø INTERCLUBS: Wed May 7 is our DIVISION COUNCIL at Castleton: Booker, Loveridge, Rogers, and Wurtemberger will attend. Tuesday May 13 at 6 PM is HOOSICK FALLS’ 80th Anniversary Celebration at the Falls Diner: Behson, Booker, Loveridge, Rogers, Ward, Weiss.
Ø Hoosick Falls GOLF TOURNAMENT at the HF Country Club, Friday June 6th, cost is $55 including food (Kevin Sarsfield is interested in creating a 4-some - contact Kevin if you might like to participate.)
Ø SL Chorale CONCERT of secular and classic music Sunday May 18th 7 PM at Salem UMC.
Ø
BICENTENNIAL KICKOFF DINNER Saturday June 21st, at the AP
Firehouse, 4:30 social hour, 5:30 dinner
for $15. Bill Lord will be the speaker, and honorees for service to Sand Lake
will be Sid Gallant and Doris Gauch. Any old pictures of SLK activities are
requested.
Ø Thank you note from school board VP Regina Cristo for the warm reception and dinner last week when she, Supt. Jo Moccia, and Mike Ouimet presented the school budget.

PROGRAM
Jerry Tysiak, filling in for Sarah Tripp, presented an overview of Summerfest so far, and distributed the list of last year’s sponsors. Each member was asked to check the names and amounts, to take the required number of decals and receipts, and urged to bring the money in!!! Also, be aware of new businesses and sponsorship opportunities, and ask them!
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Jim Colabelli: Please attend the SL Chorale Concert Sunday May 18, 7 PM at Salem UMC. Also, glad my dental session is over. Last week I had a cracked tooth, and tried homeopathic remedies—which didn’t work! Finally went to the dentist who painfully located the source of the trouble, and now the tooth is gone!
$ Chris: Red Sox are #1 by 3 games! Also, Connor went to his Prom, and I didn’t have to chaperone—I went as a parent!
$ Skip Patton: My Red Sox tickets arrived in today’s mail!
$ Gary: My son in Washington, DC received notice of his promotion to major, with a salary increase, and he will be home next week for his 2-week leave! And I AM smiling!
$ Booker: Red Sox still in 1st place! Also, at the Kamp Kiwanis Open House, the President of the Kiwanis Foundation was dedicating the commemorative bricks, there seemed to be a very persistent woodpecker intruding—but it was only Mikki wielding her hammer!
$ Jim Rogers: Attended the work session for Lt-Govs-Elect, my first time at the Kamp - it is really something!
$ Bryce, for my great Kiwanis friendship with Chris and Kelly—hugs help! Also, had a great week in Aruba with my girlfriend, but we got trapped in the elevator! “So you found out how to use the STOP button, Bryce?”
$ Eve, for the Red Sox, too, and all the familiar faces in the Java Beanery!
$ Brownrigg, for the Red Sox, of course. And as I was driving through the Bronx last week, I saw that big hole in front of Yankee Stadium—but the shirt is gone!
$ Scott Paul: My refereeing season is finally over, and my knee is very thankful!
$ Nancy Davis: Thanks to Mikki for joining the Bicentennial Committee, and am donating $$ to Jerry for Summerfest!
$ Pres Joe: Our thanks to Pat Lane and Wal-Mart for their generous donation!
DOOR PRIZE, from Sarah, another IOU again this week, was won by John Brownrigg!
50/50 for $25 was won by Jim Rogers!
MEGA 50/50 did it again! Despite John Glasser’s numerous attempts, he picked the wrong King—of Hearts! So the $565.10 will grow next week, and 15 cards will shrink to 14!
