MEETING OF APRIL 14, 2008

A moment of silence was observed in memory of our Treasurer Bob’s father, Lou Pasquarelli, who passed away last week, and whose funeral was held earlier today.

 

A brief regular meeting was held at Northeast NY Regional Food Bank prior to working.  The normal opening was abbreviated to the Pledge of Allegiance.  Supper of pizza, wings, and soda, (thanks to Chet), and mint brownies, (thanks to Eve), was enjoyed in the Food Bank’s break room.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ø       DOORS OF HOPE, unloading food trucks, tomorrow April 15 AT 9 AM:  Behson, Booker, and Johnsen.  Note earlier time!

Ø       BLOOD DRIVE Tuesday April 29 at Church of the Covenant from 1 to 6 PM.  Workers needed to register donors and serve in canteen for 3 shifts, 1-3, 3-5, (Weiss & Ward), and 5-6:30 PM. (Behson).  More needed—signup sheet next week!

Ø       Next week is INVITE A COMMUNITY GUEST NIGHT.  Program will be installation of Key Club officers from both our sponsored Key Clubs.  Parents especially invited.  Please notify Dudley of any invited guests by Thursday April 17th!

Ø       Another INVITE A COMMUNITY GUEST NIGHT will be Monday, April 28, when our speaker will be Dr Josephine Moccia, Superintendent of APCSD, on the school budget.  Again, if you invite a guest, call Dudley by Thursday April 24th!

Ø       Tentative date for BSA Camp Rotary Work Night is Monday, June 16th.

Ø       Van Rensselaer DIVISION COUNCIL meeting is this Wednesday, April 16 at Paolo Lombardi’s Ristorante, hosted by the North Greenbush Club, at 6 PM:  Booker, Loveridge, Pasquarelli, Rogers, and Weiss. And Glasser.

Ø       GOV-ELECT CAMPAIGN:  Booker’s next appearance will be at the Mohawk Division Council meeting, a prayer breakfast at the Stockade Inn in Schenectady at 10:15 AM on Saturday, April 19thBehson, Booker, and Loveridge.  At least one more???

Ø       INTERCLUB out to Hoosick Falls last Tuesday, (they now meet for dinner instead of lunch at the Falls Diner).  Entertaining and enthusiastic, with a delicious, reasonably priced meal.

Ø       BUFFET DINNER & LIVE ENTERTAINMENT (“Elvis Lives”) Sunday April 20th from 4-8 PM at Casey’s Banquet House for $25, sponsored by the Rensselaer Club.

Ø       TOWN HISTORIAN Judy Rowe is in need of old photos of Kiwanis projects and activities, by June…….please!  Please date and identify if at all possible! 

 

The 21 volunteers worked in two separate areas.  One group packaged bulk granulated sugar into two-pound bags, and the other sorted Wal-Mart donations of assorted house wares, all under the direction of Nora, who introduced the work with some amusing anecdotal stories about our “throw away” society, and how the Food Bank is able to salvage things before they go into the trash!
