PROGRAM

Pres Bob introduced PR Committee Chair Joe Cybulski to our usual underwhelming ovation.

Joe explained the importance of keeping the community informed of our activities.  We seek their help in sponsorship, so they need to understand why we need them.  Then Joe introduced Dee Pierce Erickson from The Advertiser, thanking them for all their help on our behalf, and presented her with two plaques, one for her personal help, and one for the complete Advertiser staff.  Dee responded with praise for the civic-minded administration of our local paper, especially founder Al Hayner and editor Alyson Regan, who have always championed free speech and exchange of ideas and opinions.  She then also thanked the club for the support given to her late dad, Phil Pierce, our last charter member, and to her mom Edna.

Joe Cub then distributed a geographic journalistic quiz to test our abilities to match up newspapers with their respective cities.  We were not exactly outstanding, but Bryce Cutler had the most correct answers, and was the winner of a NY Lottery ticket.  If he wins, he will have LOTS of friends!

HAPPY DOLLARS

$       Chris:  Wednesday National Honor Society dinner netted the kids $2000, and I WON EVE’S CAKE!

$       Joe Behson:  I am now a media literacy consultant – check out the number of time I am quoted in an article at corrections.com.

$       Joe Cub:  Thanks for paying attention, and for Dee’s award!

$       Woodie:  This year was my 22nd trip to the Alps!  (Europe, not the one on Rt 43!)

$       Jim C:  2 weeks ago I received my lucky 13 pin for perfect attendance, and intended to return the #12 last week, but when I started my truck, it responded with a BIG BANG!  It had lost the exhaust system!  I obviously didn’t clean out my pipes, and I missed last week’s meeting.  Got it fixed, and can now control my gas!

$       Kathy:  Update on Derrick’s progress on the Appalachian Trail.  As of 9:30 tonight, he had covered 300 miles, starting out at 170 lbs, now down to 152 lbs!  They have passed the Smoky Mtns.  While resting in a parking area, felt like they were in a petting zoo, because tourists and spectators gave them cheese, bread, and other snacks when they learned of the accomplishments and goal of their group!

$       Peg:  I have some “Grandma bragging”!  Got to baby-sit and play with my new GREAT-granddaughter this week, and learned that my 13 year old granddaughter had her long thick hair cut and donated to “Locks of Love”, making me very proud of her!
