PROGRAM

Pres Bob introduced program chair Sarah Parslow Tripp, who presented the shortest and definitely SWEETEST program we’ve had. Sarah announced that 1684 Bells of Life had been sold at Miller’s Shop and Save, and with the store adding $816 to that, she presented a check for $2500 to Young Children Priority #1 Chair Jerry Tysiak! Our utmost gratitude to everyone at Miller’s for their generosity to benefit the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Unit at Albany Med. THANK YOU!
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Jim Rogers, for the articles about SLK in the Empire State Kiwanian.
$
Chris
Blais, for the Key Club’s newest project, KISS A PIG. Students pay $1/vote
for a teacher to kiss “Whiskers”, a 230 lb potbelly pig, at the end of the
contest. Yes, Chris AND Kelly are both in the running for the honor!
“I’ve probably kissed worse in my day”, remarked Chris.
Kelly was
silent for the time being!
{SLKs were active in
contributing $$ to the Shave Mr. Blais contest, and they will predictably be
just as generous this time, too!}
It was unclear at this time who the charitable beneficiary will be from this
interesting contest. And when can we see Whiskers? {We LIKE that name!}
$ Jerry Tysiak, for all Sarah’s efforts on behalf of the Bells of Life campaign.
$ Fred Wurtemberger: I recently had the great honor of being inducted into the NY Water Environmental Association Hall of Fame of engineers, scientists, and salespeople. (The Soupervisor is shown at right)
$ Skip Patton: Just returned from a great trip to a conference of the National Biodiesel Assn in San Antonio, TX, discussing renewable fuels. Fabulous area…met Larry Hagman who has come a long way from an oil tycoon to alternative fuel…and had an impressive visit to the Alamo, especially seeing all the bullet holes! Pres Bob remarked that he had seen Davy Crockett’s clothes, including a coonskin cap and a PINK vest!
$ Kathy Evensen: Son Derrick is in Georgia, about to embark on a hike of the Appalachian Trail tomorrow, hoping to complete the entire length all the way to Maine!
$ Ken Noland: Thanks to Millers for featuring Pablo’s JavaNet coffee—it’s great!
$ Alison Greene: My recent absence from SLK has been caused by extra work at school establishing a new reading program in grades K-8. AND, following my recent auto accident, I now am the proud owner of a 2007 silver Honda CR-V!!!
$ Pres Bob: Thanks to everyone at Millers for such a large contribution to Bells of Life!
DOOR PRIZE, a $15 Miller’s gift certificate provided by Sarah, was won by Jim Colabelli!
50/50 for $25 was won by Ron Wagner!
MEGA 50/50, now up to $305, will grow for another week, because Joe Cub pulled the 7 of Diamonds from the remaining 33 cards! The King of Clubs is still in there!
NEXT WEEK PROGRAM: Skip Patton, slide show, “3 Kiwanians Against the Blue Sea”
