PROGRAM

          Pres Bob introduced Young Children Priority #1 Chair Jerry Tysiak, asking us, as we usually do, to “give him The Clap”!  And we did!  Jerry responded by saying how lonely it was at the top--sitting at the head table, last to go for food, and no one to eat with!  {Alas, fame does have its drawbacks!}

Jerry gave an overview of the last 3 years of the Bells of Life Campaign benefiting Albany Med’s Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Unit.  In 2004-05 $700 was collected at Crossgates Mall, plus $1111.30 from Millers, totaling $1811.30.  Last year we collected $1287 at Crossgates, $2500 from Millers, $500 from SLK, totaling $4287.  This year’s totals are still incomplete, but $1200 came from Crossgates, and $521 from private contributions.  Report from Millers’ campaign has not yet been received.  Total hours worked have increased each year, also, from 79 in 04/05, 147.5 last year, to 160 hours this year.  About a dozen SLKs worked each year, but much assistance and enthusiasm was received from both Averill Park and Columbia Key Clubs, their advisors, and our own family members who also helped sell the bells.  Two tours of the KPTU were held, one last June, and one especially for Key Clubbers in November, which probably accounted for the teens’ extra drive, now that they really knew what the money was going for.  Skip-A-Meal pledges produced $375 last year and $345 this year from 41 and 35 SLKs, respectively.  2 SLKs and 40 Capital District Key Clubbers staffed the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon in June.  We have accumulated enough credit for 3 Pediatric Fellow Awards.  The Kiwanis Korner in the Advertiser this March will feature the role of Kiwanis in creating and supporting the Pediatric Trauma Unit.

Jerry ended his report by reminding the Club that his position as YCP#1 Chair will become vacant as of October 2007, since he will be moving from the Vice Presidency into the President-Elect position.

HAPPY DOLLARS

$       Ken James:  Happy to be home again from a great trip to Wyoming and San Francisco!

$       Jim Colabelli shared the picture of the sonogram of his soon-to-be first grandchild!

$       John Brownrigg: Happy to fly home from Ft Myers after a soggy but great superbowl party!

Also had a great birthday!  Never in my life did I ever think I’d make (39? 49? ??)!

$       Kelly Stone:  Proud and happy that my student was able to take his GED test this weekend!

DOOR PRIZE, provided by Jerry Tysiak, was won by Armand Mills!   {Come more often, Armand!}

50/50 for $20 was won by Joe Behson!  {More trips to Mt Snow, and all those Valentine cards to buy!}

MEGA 50/50 didn’t help Joe, though; he picked the 5 of Hearts {significant?} so the $285.50 will grow some more!
