INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBER
Secretary
Dave, filling in for Membership Chair Bob Pasquarelli, invited Laurie Leckonby
to
the front, along with her husband Dave, and apparently two sponsors,
Pres Joe Behson and Clayton Besch. Dave welcomed Laurie to the Club, telling
her that she was joining a global organization of 260,000 members who annually
volunteer over 6.4 million hours on some 150,000 projects, raising over $1.7
million! He presented her with informative literature, her name badge, her
membership pin that was carefully pinned on by husband Dave, and of course,
the ever-present doo-hickey!
Laurie expressed her pleasure at becoming a Kiwanian, something she has wanted for the last 5 years. She has been a lifelong resident of the town, having grown up on Glass Lake and graduated from Averill Park High School, where she met Dave. Together they own Leckonby, Inc., which includes several separate businesses, including an auto repair shop and a used car business. Laurie herself is a real estate agent for The Kinderhook Group. Welcome, Laurie!
PROGRAM
Dudley
Dorr introduced Debra Roy, managing director of the Sand Lake Center for the
Arts - Circle Theatre Players since July 9, 2007. Circle Theatre produces 4
plays each year, presently
performing The Sunshine Boys for one more weekend. The Foreigner
will be on stage in March, and auditions for Meet Me In St. Louis are
being conducted tonight. All are welcome! The Center has created many programs
for the children in the area. There are 5 Children's Workshops held for 5
weeks during the summer: Circus Theatrics, Creative Dance, Art Smart, Hip hop,
Clay, and Elementary Theater. The Kids For Kids Theater does a production at
the end of the summer. There is also the Squire Jacob Coffeehouse series,
which brings local performers to seven informal evening sessions each season.
There are Sundays At The Center, family entertainment on the first Sunday of
each month, and an Art Gallery with various types of exhibits, (photography,
crafts, paintings, quilts), which change each month. Debra said her goals were
to increase children's' programs after school and during breaks; to build
community with other groups in town such as SLK, Historical Society, Garden
Club; and to increase volunteer appreciation, because without the volunteers
there would be no Center. She acknowledged the many volunteers who are also
members of Kiwanis. Jim Rogers presented Debra with our Certificate of
Appreciation for an informative program.

$ Laurie Leckonby: I'm so happy I have joined Kiwanis!
$ Jim Rogers: Saw The Sunshine Boys and it was terrific! And the River Rats won 2 games!
$ Gary: My 3rd grandson is also 2 yrs old (besides the twins)! I am NOT happy about the truck, but at least it runs in reverse. I got this haircut but am sworn to secrecy about where!
