ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ø        SUMMERFEST meeting tonight following the regular meeting.

Ø       Tonight’s beautiful cake is in honor of the 92nd ANNIVERSARY OF KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL!  Thank you, Eve!

Ø       Kay-Leigh Stacy & Brianna Dingman:  VALENTINE’S DAY CUPID CAFÉ, sponsored by the National Honor Society, presents a baked ziti dinner and Chinese Auction on Wed Feb 14th at Averill Park HS from 5:30-8 PM (takeout 3:30-8) for $6 adults, $4.50 students, $3 kids 5-12, 4 & under free.  Let’s support the efforts of these students!

Ø       PLG Jean Andrick:  Asking support for my candidacy for NY DISTRICT GOVERNOR.  I want to increase fellowship with sponsored youth, and have fun without politics.  Bob Pasquarelli is chairman for SLK, and Dave Booker is my campaign manager.  Hope to see you all at the Midwinter Conference Feb 23-25 at the Desmond Hospitality Suite!

Ø       John Brownrigg read a letter of THANKS for Christmas food and toys from the school nurse at West Sand Lake School.

Ø       IPP Alison Greene presented a BANNER PATCH from NY District Foundation for our Outreach contribution.

Ø       Lt Gov Kileen, on her official visit, urged all to come to the MIDWINTER CONFERENCE next month.  There will be a costume party Saturday evening!

PROGRAM:  Jim Colabelli introduced Sil Martinage, treasurer of Doors Of Hope, who thanked all those who have helped unload trucks of food from the Food Pantry, Bob   Pasquarelli for electrical work, and Ken Noland’s assistance with painting of the facility.  Sil introduced Nancy Rockwell who has been the administrator of the outreach facility for 16 years.  Doors Of Hope has provided clothing, food, and house wares to fire victims and the needy of the area.  A thrift shop helps provide some of the expenses, but they depend upon the generosity of the community.  In 2006 they purchased from Millers about $74,000 worth of food, and $26,000 from the Food Bank—all given away.  The facility was started 30 years ago by the late Hazel Baxter at Trinity Lutheran Church, and was originally known as “Four Doors Down” (from the previous location of the post office).  As it grew, it moved to various locations, and is now located at the southern corner of the intersection of Rts 150 & 43.  Over 30 volunteers from various sources (high school students, residents, court-ordered community service workers, scouts, etc) have helped 1600 families in need.

John Brownrigg thanked both Nancy and Sil and presented each with a Certificate of Appreciation.

HAPPY DOLLARS

$       Chris, for each of my lovely guests tonight!

$       Eve:  The AP track team, including my grandson, broke 2 school records this weekend!

$       Kelly, for Susan, and for Kay-Leigh and Brianna, for coming tonight!

$       Jim Colabelli, for the presence of Nancy and Sil, who is a former SLK from years ago!

$       Barb, for the birthdays of my 3 granddaughters:  Iris 6, Lillian 4, and Grace 2 all this month!

$       LG Kileen, for Julia’s 8th month birthday!

$       PLG Jean, for my “AFC” shirt, but I’m mourning the loss of my beloved Patriots yesterday! (When asked if Bob recognized the shirt he replied that at work he never saw anyone in a striped shirt – they were all weight training with shirts off.  As the room buzzed the candidate for Gov. Elect was heard to say “No way!!”)

$       Gary:  I AM smiling—I’m ALWAYS smiling!  My twin grandsons are now one year old!  My middle son came from Washington, DC; he rolls out of bed and is halfway to work!  I have extra money so will buy some Girl Scout cookies from Alison.  Some woman is always trying to take my money!

$       Jim Rogers, for the fun show that Gary always puts on!

DOOR PRIZE, provided by Jim Colabelli, was won by Mark Davies!

50/50 for $25 was won by Barb Fioravanti!

MEGA 50/50 now worth $267 almost went into PLG Jean’s “campaign chest” because Dave Booker’s ticket was drawn, but she “put up a good front” when he only picked the 10 of Spades!  That striped shirt drew so many rapid-fire comments the ED couldn’t catch them all through the raucous laughter!
